Ryan Libbey has shared an update on his and Louise Thompson’s son Leo-Hunter, and his experiences with teething so far.
Sharing a photo of himself with Leo, 16 weeks, on his lap, Ryan, 31, told his followers: ‘Leo-Hunter is 4 months old today. Every Monday at 09:44am my alarm goes off to remind me of his birth. 16 weeks have past and yet that alarm still sends me right back to the moment I first saw him.
’16 weeks on and just when I thought things were normalising and settling in this house, the teething begins…
‘The reason I want to talk about this, is because in my opinion, this is yet another thing parents seem to not share, or talk about, or give any kind of heads up or warning about.’
He added: ‘I have never seen Leo cry so hard for so long, and I’ve been assured by professionals that it’s because he is teething (he’s healthy otherwise thank god). But it’s horrific to see your little baby in so much discomfort, and when you’re so new to parenting like we are, it’s so distressing and you feel incredibly helpless.
‘For any expecting parents who might see this, just take this as a gentle heads up about teething. It can start from as early 2.5 months and it’s a process over time. It’s hard to watch and it’s horrid for the baby.’
He shared his tips for helping a baby through teething, including Calpol, teething gels and teething toys as he urged other new parents to stay strong despite the difficult parts of parenting.
Ryan concluded: ‘Best wishes to any new parents who are going through this stage and also to any parents to be. Parenting is hard, and right now it seems just as you clear one hurdle another comes.’
He added: ‘He’s still cute and I still love him. But I’m gonna get him back for this when he’s much older to wrestle with his daddy.’
It comes after Louise, 31, recently opened up about hitting ‘rock bottom’ in her ongoing battle with PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) and depression.
She had a traumatic birth with Leo in November and has since been diagnosed with severe anxiety, writing recently: ‘Something happened about a month ago where my mind and body came crashing down in tandem.
‘I guess I had been in self preservation mode/survival mode up until that point. Then the real mental health hell began.’
Louise added: ‘Honestly I’ve been at a level of rock bottom that I never knew existed. I never understood suffering or suicide before.’
