Charles Drury has been accused with beating his ex-girlfriend Lauren Goodger on the day of their late daughter’s burial, and he is scheduled to stand trial soon.
According to the Metropolitan Police, Drury, 25, has been charged with “assault (ABH) and engaging in controlling/coercive behaviour.”
On Wednesday, June 14, the builder from Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, appeared at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court. He was released on bail and will appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Wednesday, July 12.
The allegations stem from an event that occurred on August 4, 2022, in Upminster. A 30-year-old woman was treated for face injuries.
Drury is accused of assaulting Goodger, 36, and causing her ‘real bodily injury’ on the day of their newborn daughter Lorena’s burial.
A statement from the Metropolitan Police confirms: ‘A man has appeared in court charged with offences linked to an incident in Upminster.
‘Charles Drury – 25 (25.06.97) of Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire appeared at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 14 June charged with assault (ABH) and engaging in controlling/coercive behaviour.
‘He was bailed to next appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court on 12 July.
‘The charges relate to an incident police were called to in Upminster on 4 August 2022. A woman aged in her 30s was treated for facial injuries.’
A representative for Goodger said: ‘Lauren has never commented on this police investigation and will not be commenting on this story.’
Goodger was rushed to the hospital with terrible face injuries hours after the burial for her daughter Lorena, who died shortly after delivery last month, according to reports at the time.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: ‘Police were called at 00:37hrs on Thursday, 4 August to reports of an altercation at a residential address in Upminster, Essex.
‘Officers attended. At the scene a woman, aged 30s, was found with facial injuries.
‘A man, aged 25, was arrested on suspicion of assault. He was taken to an east London police station and subsequently bailed pending further enquiries. Enquiries continue.’
The couple, who divorced in January of last year, had a daughter named Larose, who will be two next month.
It comes after Goodger had to take Larose to the hospital earlier this month due to a health concern.
On Saturday, June 10, she updated her fans, stating she knew eldest Larose was ‘poorly’ and determined she required medical treatment.
‘My poor bubs got tonsillitis’, she wrote on Instagram alongside a picture of her and the tot sharing strawberries and grapes.
‘Seen doctor this morning as I knew she was poorly…So on the hottest day we are [in] bed all day with the fan on, fruit, cold drinks and lots of cuddles,; she continued, though thankfully the youngster was soon on the mend after being given antibiotics.
