Kimberley Walsh announced this week that a Girls Aloud album will be released.
The renowned pop trio separated in 2013, but their first album Sound Of The Underground turns 20 in two months, and Kimberley, 41, has confirmed the girl band will celebrate with the release of previously unseen songs.
The hitmaker explained: ‘20 years is a long time and the love that we still feel for Sound Of The Underground and some of the songs from the first album are still huge.’
‘We’ve got some fun alternative versions of songs lying around and little re-releases just to kind of mark that because, you know, it’s a big deal,’ the mum-of-three added to MailOnline.
However, while Girls Aloud fans can anticipate to wrap their ears around never-before-heard music, Kimberley has stated that the band will not be returning to the studio ‘for obvious reasons’.
The singer was most likely referring to the terrible death of Sarah Harding in 2021.
Sarah, 39, died in September of that year following a battle with breast cancer.
Cheryl, Nicola Roberts, and Nadine Coyle joined Kimberley and Sarah in Girls Aloud between 2002 and 2009, as well as in 2012 and 2013.
In 2002, the trio formed on Popstars The Rivals and went on to have 21 Top 10 singles and four Top 10 albums.
Kimberley’s comments come after Cheryl, 39, spoke about the prospect of a reunion.
She told Metro: ‘To be honest, we found out Sarah was sick because we’d sat down together to talk about how, if, and what we would like to do to celebrate the 20 years [of the band].
‘And then all that happened, and it changed the feeling of it. It just put a funny taste in my mouth.
‘I’ve learnt throughout my life [though] that you should never say never, because the universe has a funny way of going, “Oh, really?”
‘But right now, we’re not there. We want it to be fun, not sad. Girls Aloud weren’t sad, we were fun, happy, upbeat, everything that that’s not.
‘I think more time would be needed before we even – none of us have even uttered a word [about] that. We just have spoken about Sarah. We’ve become really close together.’
