After wowing in Kim Kardashian’s new Skims Mens commercial, NFL star Nick Bosa has gained a new following of admiring non-football fans.
However, some of the focus has shifted to criticism with the discovery of his incendiary tweets and statements regarding Beyonce and Donald Trump by social media users.
Kim, 43, went behind the camera for the first time for the Skims Mens shoot, with football icon Neymar Jr leading the pack of famous male models alongside Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, showcasing the fashionista’s new range of shapewear to give them the ultimate comfort on the pitches, fields, and beyond.
Fans have taken a special interest in Bosa, 26, who plays for the San Francisco 49ers and appears to be built for the modelling life with his ripped body and chiselled good features.
Reacting to his appearance in the campaign, one admirer tweeted: ‘He’s so freaking fine it’s not even funny.’
Another thirsty fan commented: ‘The way my mouth just watered????’
‘There goes all my money,’ one Skims fan declared, while another thanked Kim, writing: ‘She did this for us.’
One fan joked: ‘I feel for the women out there that have to look at Nick Bosa half nude on their timelines today. Just know that I am aware that none of you want to see that filth and I stand by you during this tough time. I’ll be writing to my local congressman on your behalf today.’
Others praised Kim as a’marketing genius’ for the pioneering advertisement, which capitalised on an undiscovered sector in the fashion industry: shapewear for men.
It wasn’t long, however, until the internet did what it does well and dredged out earlier tweets from Bosa that caused a stir.
Not only did they uncover that he formerly supported former President Trump, but they also discovered that he is not a fan of Beyonce, which is a grave offence.
During an interview with VIP Television in 2016, Bosa was asked why he didn’t like Beyonce, to which he responded: ‘I don’t like the fact that she has to make everything such a big political statement.’
The reporter then asked: ‘So you are not in Bey Nation, but you are a fan of Donald Trump, right?’
Bosa replied: ‘Yes, big fan. He brings a charisma to the table [unlike] no other candidate I’ve seen in my lifetime. I think we need change.’
The American football star was also said to have tweeted and deleted another remark about Beyonce in 2016, which read: ‘Beyonces music is complete trash.’
Bosa later explained why he deleted some of his old tweets, telling ESPN in 2019: ‘I had to. There is a chance I might end up in San Francisco.’
It’s assumed Bosa was alluding to his signing with the San Francisco 49ers and the fact that the Californian city is well-known for its political liberalism.
In other contentious remarks, Bosa called former NFL star Colin Kaepernick a “clown,” infuriating supporters of the ex-San Francisco 49ers player’s high-profile protest against police violence.
Bosa apologised after deleting the various tweets and explained at a press conference according to NFL.com: ‘I’m sorry if I hurt anybody. I definitely didn’t intend for that to be the case. I think me being here (San Francisco) is even better for me as a person, because I don’t think there’s anywhere, any city, that you could really be in that would help you grow as much as this one will.
‘I’m going to be surrounded with people of all different kinds, so I’m going to grow as a person. I’m going to be on my own. I’m going to grow up, I’m gonna learn a lot of new things. It’s exciting.’
Addressing his tweet about Kaepernick, the sports star insisted: ‘It wasn’t directed toward that. It’s not like I’m saying his stance and what he was doing — that’s not what I was talking about at all.
‘It was just a specific thing that happened, and me, as a young kid, a thought popping into my head and, boom, decided to tweet it out. Bad decision. I respect what he’s done. If it empowers anybody, then he’s doing a good thing. I apologise for that.’
Those who were unaware of Bosa’s past comments reacted in shock, with one writing: ‘A trumper AND he hates Beyoncé? Kim is so funny for this.’
Retracting their fandom of Bosa, one other critic added: ‘No longer thirsting for Nick Bosa. He’s heavy into trump, doesn’t like Beyoncé and criticized colin kaepernick. Bye bye.’
Another said: ‘Not Nick Bosa being exposed for hating Beyoncé and liking Donald Trump. I’m never trusting men again.’
Kim announced Skims Men on Monday and said in a statement: ‘The expansion into the menswear space is a major milestone for the brand, and a testament to SKIMS’ commitment to providing solutions for everybody.
‘To have an icon like Neymar Jr be the face of our launch campaign, along with NBA All-Star, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and NFL’s top Defensive Player Nick Bosa, I think speaks volumes to the way SKIMS has evolved into becoming a brand that can provide comfort for all audiences, not just for women.’
She added: ‘I am incredibly excited about this next chapter for SKIMS and cannot wait for everyone to experience our amazing range of products.’
Skims was created in 2019 by the Kardashians star, originally with a growing variety of shapewear for women, and has since grown to become a successful company valued at $4 billion (£3.2 billion).
