Kelly Clarkson opened up about how Jennifer Love Hewitt was the only nice celebrity to her during her original stint on American Idol.
Clarkson initially found fame on the first season of the show, becoming the first to be crowned the winner of American Idol all the way back in 2002.
However, Clarkson getting accepted into the celebrity circles was not an instantaneous process. In fact, she claims she was initially shunned – albeit, except by one.
When interviewing Love Hewitt on The Kelly Clarkson Show, the singer recounted a moment of kindness that helped her cope at a difficult time.
Clarkson recounted: ‘It was at some kind of MTV Awards, VMAs or something. I don’t know what it was, but you ran up to me.
‘It was right when it was the final three of Idol, everything was happening in a whirlwind and people were really mean to us because we’re from a talent show and it was the first season. Everyone was so rude to us, like on the carpet, at the show – it was horrible.’
Love Hewitt was a beacon of light to the up and coming star though, it seems. She continued: ‘You came up to me, ran up to me out of nowhere and were like “Oh my gosh, I’m really rooting for you”.
‘You told me, “Please, keep the ones you love so close. It’ll end up being a few people in your life unfortunately but this business can be really hard. And just remember to keep those people that really love you.”‘
Clarkson finished by saying: ‘You just gave me this advice that was really kind at such an unkind time for me personally. So thank you so much, it meant the world to me.’
Love Hewitt replied: ‘Thank you, that’s so nice!’
