‘If you’re coming to my show, do not be aggressive with anyone else, do not bother the person next to you…do not talk throughout the f**king show, I get it, you’re wasted, but just be f**king quiet. Go to sleep for an hour. You can nap in my show…’
The comedian went on to explain the argument from her perspective, saying she wasn’t able to see anything due to the bright stage lights.
She said: ‘When I’m on stage there are bright lights, I’m basically like an owl, my little pupils shrink down to nothing. Sometimes I can hear chattering, I don’t always know what’s going on.
‘Last week there was a fracas, let’s call it, in Leicester. The audience were chatting from the start… I open my shows saying “welcome, do whatever you want…use your phone if you want, do whatever you need to do…I don’t care, I already have your money. But what I do need is for you to keep you pissed-ness to yourself…”‘
Katherine went on to plea with fans not to involve other people in the room, as many may have put in a lot of effort and money to attend the gig, like forking out for a babysitter, or a hotel, imploring: ‘Don’t f**k everything up for the person next to you.’
Explaining the moment Violet came onto the stage, The Audacity author said: ‘I couldn’t see, but at the very end of the show there was some type of argument, I had to address it.’
Katherine went on: ‘Violet was on tour with me, she doesn’t come every night, it was a Saturday, what a way to kick off the half-term weekend.
‘Violet doesn’t watch the whole show, it’s not appropriate for her, even still at twelve-and-a-half years old I don’t think…she poked her head out…I thought if something is going to kick off let’s bring Violet out because surely no one’s going to fight in front of a child.
‘I said to her, why don’t you sing something into the microphone, because, again, who’s going to fight when the voice of an angel [sings Hallelujah]? She comes out now, she’s grown up, so she goes “no no no I’m gonna sort this instead”.
‘Violet grabs the microphone and starts addressing these people directly.’
Recalling her daughter’s message to the crowd, Katherine said: ‘”I know it’s Saturday!” First of all, what does that mean?’
She went on: ‘I couldn’t believe, I should be able to believe it because Violet bosses me around in the house, she’s very confident and self-assured…a little leader in her own right.
‘It worked, briefly worked.
‘People had a laugh because, of course, it’s surprising to see a 12-year-old command the stage like that.’
The comedian said after they left the stage ‘it seemed calm’ before ‘apparently things continued after the lights got turned on’.
She added: ‘I just get continually surprised this tour by number one, how people have forgotten to act in public, number two, how drunk people are, I’m not saying everyone involved was drunk, but these situations.’
