In a social media message to her fans, Jesy Nelson lashed out at allegations that she was at odds with her former Little Mix bandmates.
The singer, 31, responded to the revelation that she hadn’t spoken to Perrie Edwards, 29, Jade Thirlwall, or Leigh-Anne Pinnock, 31, in two years by posting a video to her Instagram Story.
She announced she was ‘upset’ that she wasn’t questioned more about her new song and criticised the media for publishing stories about a ‘feud’ she claimed was untrue while fighting back tears.
In an open letter to her fans, Jesy stated that she was eager to “speak [her] truth on this one.”
She said: ‘Hey guys, so I honestly don’t normally comment on these things because so much sh*t gets written about me 24/7 that after a while I just think whatever because I don’t like adding fuel to the fire and I’m just over it.’
The celebrity went on to say that she was frustrated that she hadn’t been given the chance to speak about the domestic violence message of her song’s music video, Bag Thing.
Following the release of her comeback single, the pop star explained her intentions behind adding scenes that depicted an abusive relationship into her video.
She said at its premiere: ‘I just feel like so many women in my life have been through horrific experiences like this and I just really wanted to raise awareness about it.
‘I think it’s such an important topic that hardly anyone ever speaks about. There’s so many people that go through it and they’re too scared to talk about it and so I just think it’s really important.’
Jesy went on to address her relationship with her former girl band that found fame on The X Factor: ‘I was in Little Mix for 10 years so naturally people are going to be curious are we still speaking.
‘I said no we haven’t spoke for two years but I honestly wish them all the best, we’re all on our solo journeys, it’s such an exciting time for us all right now.
‘Honestly, that was all I said. That one “no we haven’t spoke for two years” then gets put in every headline, on the front of the newspaper that there’s this ongoing feud – and it’s just f***ing b*****t because I just feel like women just get pitted up against each other 24/7 in music and I hate it.
‘I think it’s disgusting and it’s just really frustrating that when you’re actually going in there to talk abut something that’s really close to your heart and means something to me is then taken out of context.’
At the conclusion of 2020, Jesy formally departed the group.
