Jessica Simpson celebrated an important milestone last week, revealing on social media that she has been clean for six years.
The 43-year-old actress celebrated the feat on Instagram, reposting a photo from her Instagram stories from 2021.
Simpson is shown sitting down in 2017, when she was in the grip of addiction.
Simpson initially shared the photograph two years ago to commemorate the fourth anniversary of her sobriety, and she has since republished it to commemorate her sixth year sober.
Jessica seemed unrecognisable in the photo, which showed her sitting on a sofa in a pink tracksuit.
Jessica commented on the stigma around alcohol addiction and’rediscovering her light’ when she initially tweeted the photograph two years ago.
The A-lister wrote in part: ‘This person in the early morning of Nov 1, 2017 is an unrecognizable version of myself.
‘I had so much self discovery to unlock and explore. I knew in this very moment I would allow myself to take back my light, show victory over my internal battle of self respect, and brave this world with piercing clarity.’
The doting mum added: ‘There is so much stigma around the word alcoholism or the label of an alcoholic. The real work that needed to be done in my life was to actually accept failure, pain, brokenness, and self sabotage.
‘The drinking wasn’t the issue. I was. I didn’t love myself. I didn’t respect my own power. Today I do.’
Jessica’s inspiring post comes after she denied using medicines to help her lose weight.
The singer has struggled with her weight in recent years, saying previously that she has ‘gained and lost 100lbs’ three times in a short period of time.
Naturally, the singer is happy of sticking to a diet and dropping a significant amount of weight, cheerfully posing in bikinis and promoting her ‘hard work, determination, and self love.’
Jessica, on the other hand, has been accused of using a pill to reduce weight, since the diabetic medication Ozempic has become a new fad for individuals – notably celebrities – to lose weight.
She has since vehemently denied the allegations, claiming that her slimmer figure is the result of sheer ‘willpower’ and sobriety.
When asked if Ozempic has anything to do with her weight, she said, ‘Oh Lord. It is not.’
‘It’s willpower,’ she went on to Bustle, adding exasperatedly: ‘Do people want me to be drinking again?
‘Because that’s when I was heavier. Or they want me to be having another baby? My body can’t do it.’
