Jeremy Clarkson had a secret health scare: a ‘5cm cyst’ on his back, which he had removed after leaving a vacation early.
The Clarkson’s Farm actor, whose programme was recently compared to Johnny Vegas’ Carry on Glamping, much to his dismay, was spending time at a wellness resort with girlfriend Lisa Hogan.
However, he was not having fun and decided to move his procedure forward by one week.
‘I had a 5cm cyst, which is now not a cyst any more,’ the 63-year-old recalled.
A cyst is a spherical mass under the skin that is usually filled with fluid or pus. Although painful cysts are normally not treated, they can be removed with local anaesthesia, and some patients choose to have noticeable lumps removed.
He added to The Sun: ’Lisa took me to a health farm and, well, it was so miserable there that I thought, “I’ve got to have this cyst taken out at some point, I may as well go now”.’
He left the resort to go directly to the hospital, deciding that having a surgery would be more enjoyable than ‘eating juniper berries’ at the resort, which also provided wheatgrass, which he described as ‘gut-retching dreadfulness’.
Jeremy addressed the situation with his typical cynical humour: ‘As I lay under the surgeon’s knife, I thought “this is preferable”.’
Let’s only hope the mysterious health farm’s owner isn’t easily offensed!
Jeremy dropped one stone over the process, although he believes half of it was due to the cyst.
‘It wasn’t cancer. It was never going to be cancerous though — I wasn’t in the mood,’ he concluded.
Who Wants to be A Millionaire?will return to ITV on Sunday, and Jeremy couldn’t resist taking a go at rival game shows’ prize amounts.
‘People get their knickers in a twist on Pointless for £700, you know, so £8,000, this is massive, massive money, and then you’re asking them to gamble it to get £16,000,’ he said before adding that £1million is ‘absolutely massive’.
ITV faced criticism for having exclusively male presenters. In response to the scarcity of women presenting Saturday night entertainment events, he stated that there is ‘no earthly reason why there aren’t more.
