I’m A Celebrity winner Giovanna Fletcher has revealed she suffered a miscarriage at six weeks, before falling pregnant with her eldest son Buzz, now six.
The Happy Mum, Happy Baby podcast host, 35, opened up on the heartbreaking experience and admitted it was ‘such a lonely thing to go through’.
Giovanna had been reflecting on Meghan Markle’s decision to publicly speak out about having a miscarriage over the summer and the ‘unbearable grief’ she felt.
She praised the Duchess of Sussex for bravely opening up in a personal essay she had penned for The New York Times, while stressing that it’s ‘so important’ for those who go through miscarriage to speak openly about it.
Giovanna revealed that she too had lost a baby early on in pregnancy at six weeks.
‘I think it’s so admirable and amazing for [Meghan] to share what is a really raw and upsetting thing to go through… I had a miscarriage before Buzz and it took me years to be able to talk about it,’ Giovanna revealed to The Sun.
‘Once you do [talk about it], it’s hugely comforting,’ she said, while stressing just how important having support through miscarriage is.
‘I think it’s so important that people are open about miscarriages, [because] every time someone brings this topic of conversation up it helps so many people,’ Giovanna continued.
‘It’s such a lonely thing to go through and hearing other people express themselves when you can’t find the words to help people understand what you’re going through is so important.’
Giovanna has since welcomed three children with her husband Tom Fletcher; sons Buzz, six, Buddy, four, and Max, two.
They were seen cheering her through her stint on I’m A Celebrity, with viewers watching on as Giovanna was crowned this year’s winner during Friday night’s final.
She became the first ever queen of the castle – following the show’s move to Wales for 2020 – while Radio 1 presenter Jordan North finished in second place and TV host Vernon Kay came third.
Giovanna was shocked when hosts Ant and Dec announced the result, as she told the pair: ‘I can’t believe it, people have literally picked up their phone and voted. I can’t believe it. It’s been the most amazing experience.’
‘It’s amazing just to be here,’ she said. ‘I can’t believe I’m part of the show that I love.’
