Heidi Klum has reacted strongly to accusations that she eats only 900 calories per day, stating she doesn’t track calories and has no idea where the news originated from.
The German supermodel, 50, has been squarely in the limelight for decades and has felt the strain to keep in shape in her line of work.
Heidi recently participated in an Instagram Q&A with followers, during which she stated that she ate a low-fat breakfast of poached eggs in chicken broth and weighed nearly 10 stone.
However, word spread that Heidi ate just 900 calories each day – less than half the amount advised by the NHS for women.
Heidi has since went to Instagram to clarify that she does not track calories and to advise people not to accept everything they read on the internet.
She said in a video: ‘I just got home and some friends are sending me these articles that have been written, that I only take in 900 calories.
‘One, I don’t think I’ve ever had to count my calories in my life. Don’t believe everything that you read. I don’t count my calories.’
She went on: ‘Someone asked me how much I weighed. I got on the scale and showed how much I weighed. And then I don’t know, people just put things together and write a bunch of c**p.’
Heidi said the reports could lead to someone thinking eating just 900 calories a day was a good idea and could ‘possibly follow that, and that’s not good for them.’
Eating 900 calories a day can result in malnutrition, with symptoms such as tiredness, dizziness, and stomach distress.
Certain weight reduction programmes that entail eating considerably fewer calories than the recommended daily calorie intake are normally reserved for medical reasons and are strictly monitored by a medical specialist.
It wasn’t the first time Heidi has addressed suspicions about her eating habits, as well as those of her husband, Tokio Hotel singer Tom Kaulitz.
In another recent Instagram Q&A, in which Heidi was relaxing on top of her 33-year-old beau, she told him: ‘People think I put you on some strange diet.’
Joking with his wife, Tom confirmed sarcastically: ‘Yeah, it’s horrible.’
