Following a recent inspection, Gino D’Acampo’s Liverpool restaurant scored one star out of a possible five in a hygiene assessment.
The 46-year-old Italian chef and This Morning regular runs eight restaurants in the UK, one of which is on Old Hall Street.
The institution was reportedly examined on January 17, with the Food Standards Agency (FSA) determining that’major improvement is required’ for the firm to continue.
Further information on the restaurant’s hygiene rating – which is a collaboration with hotel company Meli and also features a sky bar – has not been released, and the FSA has not revealed why food hygiene was scored so low.
However, following an inspection by Liverpool Council’s environmental health officials last month, it’s understood that the Italian chef’s second venture in the city will have had the hygienic handling of food, including preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling, and storage, thoroughly investigated.
Inspectors will also evaluate the cleanliness and condition of its amenities and facility.
To ensure optimal food hygiene, proper layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities, and pest control are required.
Other factors to be evaluated include food safety management, such as the system for ensuring that food is safe to eat, and proof that personnel are aware of food safety.
A spokesperson for Gino D’Acampo Hotels and Leisure told Liverpool Echo: ‘We’re extremely disappointed with this rating and have taken immediate action to address the points raised.
‘Our expert consultants have since conducted a robust audit and were satisfied that corrective measures have been met.
‘A re-inspection has already been invited and we are confident of seeing a return to higher scores in line with our sibling restaurants.’
Gino’s Liverpool restaurant launched in 2021, shortly after the hotel.
The institution has actually had troubles with the local council in the past, since concerns about the terms of its premises permit were raised two years ago.
Following disagreements between the chain and ward councillors, the venue decided to cease serving alcohol at 2 a.m. instead of the intended cut-off time of 3 a.m.
After the restaurant stated that it would not seek to play music or monitor sounds late at night, the objections were withdrawn.
