On World Book Day, David Walliams gave the world a rare glimpse of his little kid.
Alfred Walliams, a best-selling children’s author and nine-year-old, got into the spirit of things with a really amazing costume for the yearly event.
Alfred had to dress up like a character from one of his father’s books, right? So he went with Spaceboy.
The former Britain’s Got Talent judge shared a series of photos of Alfred before he went to school this morning, beaming with delight as the kid had changed into the main character in his father’s current novel.
On the school run, the Little Britain inventor couldn’t have looked prouder, holding his son’s hand and carrying his son’s lunchbox.
Because the comic is highly protective of his child’s identity and keeps him out of the spotlight, the photographs he shared with his two million Instagram followers included Alfred wearing his helmet, which covered his face.
‘Me & my little SPACEBOY for #WORLDBOOKDAY,’ the TV personality said in his caption.
We must confess that dressing your child up like one of your book characters for school is excellent free advertisement.
David’s followers and celebrity pals were equally enamoured with the adorable photos.
‘Can I borrow this costume next year please 🤣’, Kimberley Walsh joked.
‘You know you are bossing world book day when your author dad is dropping you off at school ❤️’, one follower wrote.
‘Lucky boy having you for his Dad! Hope he gets to be the first person to read each book! Lovely photos. 👏’, penned another.
Several parents shared their enthusiasm for David’s novels, revealing that their children had dressed up as characters such as Gangsta Granny for World Book Day.
After signing a deal with HarperCollins, David began writing children’s novels in 2008.
His works have been translated into 53 languages to date, and he has been dubbed “the UK’s fastest-growing children’s novelist.”
His other writings, in addition to Spaceboy, are Mr Stink and Billionaire Boy, both of which have been turned into television films.
Yet when it comes to his own son, David is determined to keep him out of the spotlight.
‘Well, because it’s just childhood isn’t it?’, he responded, when asked by Hello! about his decision to protect his child from fame.
‘Being in the spotlight, I don’t see how that would help them. You don’t know what they’re going to want to do with their lives. What’s the point of them being on display, I don’t understand it.’
‘They might choose to do something completely private with their lives in which case there doesn’t seem to be any advantage to it,’ he added.
‘You’ve got to make your own choices about that sort of thing.
‘I knew what I was getting into, this is what I signed up to. Making a television programme, you know, it’s different, it’s unavoidable and if you’re a kid it must be quite hard.’
David shares Alfred with Lara Stone, his ex-wife from 2010 until 2015.
