Few court fights have captivated the public as much as Coleen Rooney and Rebekah Vardy’s, called ‘Wagatha Christie’.
Coleen accused Rebekah’s account of leaking allegations about her to the press, prompting the two high-profile football WAGs to square off.
The 37-year-old discovered her pal in a moment of great sleuthing and disclosed her findings in a post that stunned the nation.
Rebekah, 41, retaliated against Coleen’s claim with legal proceedings, and the Wagatha trial unravelled.
Following years of moving in the same circles with their spouses playing as colleagues and supposedly close friends, the two were considered to be pals.
Coleen, on the other hand, has claimed that she never felt that close to Jamie Vardy’s wife, calling their bond “unnatural.”
The TV personality may be well-known, but she actually has a limited network of pals, many of whom she has known for years and who she keeps out of the spotlight.
She told The Times: ‘I can tell when someone is trying to force a friendship because of your status. I’m very savvy about that.
‘And I felt like the friendship Rebekah was trying to put on me was unnatural.’
The case’s turning point, which will be the subject of a new Disney+ documentary, came when Coleen noticed her stories were being leaked and created a trap for herself.
She revealed her investigation in her now-famous post, writing, ‘It’s… Rebekah Vardy’s account.’
A defamation suit was filed, putting the onus on Coleen’s team to establish it was Rebekah’s account that leaked the material.
Following a hectic trial, the court found against Rebekah and ordered her to pay 90% of Coleen’s expenses in addition to her own.
While Coleen’s connection had not been a ‘natural’ one prior to this occurrence, she was nevertheless astonished that personal information from a fellow WAG’s account would be published in this manner.
She continued: ‘Obviously Rebekah has lived my life to a degree, in the public eye. So I never thought someone would do that to someone else.
‘But I knew she enjoyed the limelight and would do things only to be in the public eye. And the more I knew, the more I wasn’t surprised.’
