Alfred Molina is reportedly set to reprise his role as eight-limbed villain Doctor Octopus in the upcoming Spider-Man 3 movie alongside Tom Holland as the main role.
The actor, 67, had been rumoured to be returning to the next instalment of the Spider-Man franchise after GWW reported that the actor had been spotted on set in November.
Alfred has previously played Otto Octavius, a scientist who became the eight-limbed villain in 2004’s Spider-Man 2, who pushed Tobey Maguire’s lead character to the limits in the film.
The Hollywood Reporter claims that Alfred will be returning for the upcoming movie, which will tie in the three generations of Spider-Man films.
As well as his return, Jamie Foxx is also set to return as Electro after starring in 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 which starred Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man.
In October, Jamie had even hinted in a since-deleted Instagram post that three different Spider-Men could appear in the film, though Marvel and Sony have yet to comment on the claims.
It is not yet known whether Jamie and Alfred will be playing the same versions of their characters in the upcoming movie, or whether there will be a new spin on the villains instead.
Benedict Cumberbatch is also set to appear in the film as Doctor Strange, while Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Jacob Batalon and Tony Revolori are also expected to return in the next Spider-Man flick.
Jon Watts is returning to direct the new Spider-Man – the follow up to 2019’s Far From Home – which began shooting in Atlanta in October as a joint production between Sony and Disney’s Marvel Studios, once the coronavirus lockdown restrictions had been eased.
Spider-Man 3 is currently slated for release on December 17, 2021.
