A brand new singing competition has arrived on ITV, as Starstruck launches with Olly Murs as the host.

With some people already comparing the series to Stars in Their Eyes, the show will feature a star-studded panel including Sheridan Smith, Adam Lambert, Jason Manford and Beverley Knight.

This programme will not only be a chance for members of the public to showcase their vocal talents, but also debut their impressive transformation skills, as they’re glammed up to look like musical icons among the likes of Amy Winehouse, Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande and Lionel Richie.

At the end of the programme, there will be a chance for the singers to win a whopping prize of £50,000.

So how does the entertainment show work?

The new series will consist of six episodes of 75 minutes and then one of 90 minutes, as four teams consisting of three singers each go up against each other.

Each week, the aim of the teams will be to win the vote of the judging panel and the virtual audience in order to bag a place in the final and hopefully win the large cash sum.

That’s not all, as each episode, the participants on the show will be transformed into the music idols for their performances in their teams, with the help of an accomplished glam team.

Every episode will end in a gripping fashion, as a finale determines which trios will make it to the finale.

Drawing on her experience of playing Cilla Black on TV, judge Sheridan said that she is ‘thrilled’ to be a part of the series.

‘I can’t wait to see what some of the contestants do with our modern music acts and true icons. And with everything else that’s going on at the moment, this is just the type of show we can all enjoy together!’ she said.

Singer Adam said that he ‘loved the idea from the moment I heard about it’, adding: ‘After the year everyone has been through, let’s come together through creativity and music and have a good time!’

Recording artist Beverley explained what viewers can expect, saying: ‘Every show we get to witness ordinary people emulate extraordinary icons on a huge scale and I’m so here for it!

‘I’m looking forward to hearing and seeing those spectacular transformations and being a cheerleader for every contestant.’

Meanwhile, comedian Jason said that he ‘adores talented people’, adding: ‘I’m very proud to be part of a show that’s going to let them show off. They’re ticking off a super entertaining bucket list moment and we get to be part of it.’

Starstruck premieres tonight at 8.30pm on ITV.
