David and Victoria Beckham proved they are the ultimate mum and dad as they change their summer plans to spend as much time as possible with their son Romeo.
The celebrity couple recently saw their eldest son, Brooklyn, get married to billionaire heiress Nicola Peltz, with the newlyweds settling in Palm Beach, Florida.
And as delighted as David and Victoria were to welcome Nicola to the family, they’re clearly not in a rush to see the rest of their children grow up, and are holding tight on to second son, 19-year-old Romeo.
Speaking at a Haig Club event in London’s Sushi Samba, David explained that the entire family usually spend their summers in Europe, but things are different this year.
‘Romeo’s living in Miami at the moment,’ David said of his son, who is a member of Inter Miami football club.
‘Usually we’d love to be in Europe for summer, but we’ll probably spend maybe a week or so in Europe and then we’ll go away to Miami.
‘We’d like to be together as a family,’ David, who also shares Cruz, 17, and 10-year-old Harper with wife Victoria, explained.
‘[Romeo] is getting older now so at some point he’ll want to be with his girlfriend or his mates and not want to spend the summer with us.
‘But he has no choice because he’s working, so we’re going to join him in Miami,’ the former England icon joked.
He added that hopefully Brooklyn and ‘his new wife’ would also be able to visit from Palm Beach.
David was speaking at a summer event by whisky company Haig Club, which he has been partnered with since 2014, and spoke about enjoying the drink with friends for his recent birthday party.
David revealed didn’t want to do anything big for his birthday, to the point where Victoria ‘started calling [him] grumpy.’
‘I didn’t want so many people,’ he admitted.
‘I just wanted the kids, family, a couple of friends, that’s really what it was. We had about 10 friends over to the house and we barbecued because the weather was amazing.
‘We drank, responsibly of course! There were a couple of cocktails we mixed on the day, had a few mixologists that popped over.
‘My favourite is an old fashioned so they made an old fashioned for me.
‘Victoria’s choice of drink on the day actually was a spicy picante. She had a couple of those!’
