Willow Pill has revealed they are transgender to fans, becoming the fifth queen on season 14 of Drag Race to do so.
The much-loved queen shared the news on Thursday evening, which immediately saw a flood of support come in from fans.
Willow said: ’It’s taken me a long time to come to terms with my transness because so much space has been taken up by my illness,’ Willow wrote in a post, which touched on their diagnosis with the kidney disease cystinosis.’
Cystinosis is a disease that can cause issues with various vital bodily functions including muscles.
‘My condition has caused me so much physical and emotional pain that my body became something I always wanted out of.
‘Eventually, hating my body for failing me and hating myself for not being a girl was so constant and intertwined that it felt totally normal. I know it’s not my fault, just the way I’ve learned to survive,’ Willow added.
They went on to explain that their pronouns are she/they.
Willow explained they explored ‘feelings about illness, medical PTSD and self-hatred’ during the Covid pandemic, which led them to realise they were ‘not happy’ with their gender identity.
‘Much of that is due to being on Drag Race and feeling euphoria being Willow for the first time since quarantine and being around a bunch of queer and trans friends on set.’
Willow is the latest Drag Race star from season 14 to confirm they are trans, after Kerri Colby, Kornbread ‘The Snack’ Jeté, Bosco, and Jasmine Kennedie all came out during or after their time on the programme.
It’s now become the season of RuPaul’s Drag Race with the most known trans performers of any season in the show’s history.
In terms of where Willow is currently on the gender identity spectrum: ‘For now, I just say trans femme, but I also don’t have to know now.
‘I want to cry more, have softer skin and a fatter ass. Happiness would also be nice,’ Willow added.
‘I want to share this because I have felt so lonely keeping this to myself. I’ve rarely been able to talk to other people with similar stories, though I know there are many out there.
‘I’m so tired of holding my pain in, and if I’m sharing dark bath bomb jokes and my ass cheeks to the TV world, then I also want to share this… I’m starting to finally feel bits of happiness with my face and body, and that’s a start.
‘I love ya’ll so much!’
As well as fans of the show, the contestants from season 14 also rallied behind their fellow queen.
Kornbread wrote: ‘I love you to the moon and back! If you ever need me to tear the wax strip off a thick layer of hair in your armpits aggressively simply for my enjoyment… I will!’
‘Love you Willow!! No matter what, you will always be my sister in questionable footwear,’ teased Maddy Morphosis.
Canada’s Drag Race season one star Scarlett BoBo added: ‘Omggggg Congraaaaats you absolute beautiful human!!!’
