The Dropout
The rise and fall of Elizabeth Holmes, the woman behind discredited billion-dollar US medical corp Theranos, is a cautionary tale for our times.
The ease with which Holmes persuaded gullible investors to invest in her unverified blood-testing ‘breakthrough’ is laid out in all its jaw-dropping idiocy in this sharp dramatised take, with Amanda Seyfried note-perfect as arch faker Holmes, a sharply dressed, voice-changing charlatan whose climb to the top of the business ladder shook money markets to their foundations. Naveen Andrews co-stars.
Episodes one to three available tomorrow, then new episodes weekly.

Murder In Provence
Imagine the gruff but reassuring tones of Endeavour’s DI Fred Thursday transported to the sun-kissed streets of Provence and you’ve arrived at the impeccable Roger Allam’s latest crime-cracking role.
He’s swapped the Oxford police for the French judiciary to play Antoine Verlaque, a judge whose beat is the idyllic town of Aix-en-Provence.
Well, not totally idyllic – in Aix, criminals can be just as vexing as anywhere else.
Available now.
Netflix
Pieces Of Her
This mystery thriller, set in small-town Georgia, USA, has one big plus in its favour: Toni Collette.
The serially underrated Collette plays Laura, a woman with a secret she’s kept hidden from her family until a shocking incident threatens to lift the lid on her whole can of worms.
Based on a Karin Slaughter novel, the tone is unsettling and Bella Heathcote impresses as Laura’s daughter, Andy.
Available Friday.
Joe vs Carole
Another spin on the Tiger King phenomenon. Yes, that’s Joe and Carole as in Exotic and Baskin, key protagonists in the wildlife world feud.
In this dramatised version, Kate McKinnon is a dead ringer for Baskin, while John Cameron Mitchell gives us a skinnier Exotic.
Available Friday.
