Zola is making its way to cinemas this summer and we are so ready to watch this crazy story play out on the big screen.
Over five years after the now-iconic Twitter thread went viral, viewers will get to watch the story of how former Hooters waitress Zola ended getting caught up in a trip that involved drugs, prostitution and trafficking.
Directed Janicza Bravo, the film is being released by media company A24 and stars the likes of Taylour Paige and Elvis’ granddaughter Riley Keough.
Here’s what else you need to know about the film.

Is Zola based on a true story?
Yes indeed – Zola is based on one of the wildest Twitter threads in the app’s history.
In October 2015, A’Ziah ‘Zola’ King decided to recount her crazy tale in an epic 148 tweets.
She told the surreal story of her chance meeting with a girl called Jess who convinced her to go down to Florida in order to make megabucks while stripping as a friend’s club.
However, when they arrived they soon found themselves getting caught up with a pimp named Z that used them as prostitutes.
The story was subsequently adapted into a Rolling Stone article entitled Zola Tells All: The Real Story Behind The Greatest Stripper Saga Ever Tweeted.
After that, it was picked up for development as a movie and the rest is history.
Who is in the cast of Zola?
Taylour Paige stars as the semi-fictionalized take on Zola, while Riley Keough plays Stefani (the character inspired by Jess).
Succession star Nicholas Braun is Stefani’s boyfriend Derrek, while Da 5 Bloods’ Colman Domingo is the mysterious pimp X.
The cast list also includes Nelcie Souffrant, Nasir Rahim, Amelia Rose Monteagudo, Ari’el Stachel, Jason Mitchell, TS Madison and Tommy Foxhill.
When is Zola released and how to watch it?
A24 is releasing Zola in theaters this summer on June 30.
There’s still no word on when it will be available to audiences outside the US, but we’ll keep you posted.
We can’t wait to wait this wild ride brought to life.
