Sheridan Smith’s long awaited BBC drama Four Lives, based around the victims of Grindr Killer Stephen Port, has been delayed again.
The series was filmed two years ago, and is now suffering another delay after coronavirus pushed back legal proceedings.
Four Lives can only be shows after an inquest into the deaths of Port’s victims has taken place. As The Sun reports, Covid-19 has caused the inquest to be pushed back.
An insider told the publication: ‘This will prolong the agony of families who are hoping the drama will show the world how the cases were handled, and how police may have been able to stop the killer sooner.
‘Relatives were already upset last year when they learned the broadcast date was being pushed back by at least 14 months due to the court proceedings.’
Four Lions sees Stephen Merchant appear as Port, who used the dating app Grindr to lure men to their deaths, giving them a fatal dose of GHB before sexually assaulting and killing them.
The drama was renamed to Four Lives from The Barking Murders in 2019. It was renamed in order to change the focus on the drama, so it becomes more about the lives lost than the Port. The killer is now behind bars for life after being found guilty of the murder of the four men in November 2016.
The four lives in question were: Anthony Walgate, Gabriel Kovari, Daniel Whitworth and Jack Taylor, who all died between 2013 and 2014.
Sheridan Smith is set to appear on the show as Anthony Walgate’s mother and Jaime Winstone will play Donna, the sister of Jack Taylor.
