The Big Bang Theory’s Mayim Bialik is hard at work on her new series, Call Me Kat – and by hard at work, we mean hanging out with cats all day and getting paid for it.
Seriously, we’re not jealous at all.
The actress, who is producing and starring in the US reboot of BBC favourite Miranda, has moved the series over into a cat cafe, and as a result gets to cuddle a host of real (and fake) kittens as her character tries to keep the shop afloat.
But with Covid regulations in place, there comes with some rules, even for her new purr-fect pals.
In a new behind-the-scenes photo, Mayim is seen beaming among the clowder of adorable fluffy cats, as she rests up in the set for her character’s home.
She then explained: ‘Because of covid regulations you’re only allowed to pet the cats if you’re acting in a scene with them. Today I got to share the stage with (L to R) Tux, Henry, Giza, and Stolichnaya and I pet them all copiously.’
‘I love my job,’ she continued. ‘My cats at home smell me suspiciously when I get him like a jealous lover smelling someone else’s perfume on their bae lol.’
While a cat cafe typically means using a lot of cats, animals on set and cruelty laws means it’s probably far from the best idea.
So as well as some trained animals, the show has recruited the help of incredibly lifelike toys, specially created to give the cafe some life.
Call Me Kat – originally titled Carla – is based in Louisville, Kentucky and will see Kat (played by Mayim) battling her overbearing mother after deciding to open her dream cafe instead of getting married.
She’s joined by American Horror Story’s Cheyenne Jackson as Max, Kat’s friend and not-so-secret crush, who is based of Miranda’s love interest Gary (played by Tom Ellis in the original).
Will and Grace alum Leslie Jordan will play Phil and Swoosie Kurtz will play Sheila, Kat’s far from pleased mother.
