Season five of Yellowstone marks the end of the series.
The massive Paramount series will return in November with the second half of its fifth and final season, but fans have much to look forward to.
An unannounced sequel series has been commissioned, and it will premiere on Paramount Network and Paramount+ the following month, which should help everyone cope with the loss.
Chris McCarthy, president and CEO of Showtime and MTV Entertainment Studios, assured that the spin-off series ‘would be another great smash’ for the network.
In a statement, he said, ‘Yellowstone has been the cornerstone on which we have launched an entire universe of global hits – from 1883 to Tulsa King, and I am confident our Yellowstone sequel will be another big hit, thanks to Taylor Sheridan’s brilliant creative mind and our incredible casts who bring these shows to life.’
Plot specifics are being kept under wraps, although prior rumours indicated that Matthew McConaughey was in discussions for a new programme starring numerous Yellowstone characters from co-creator Sheridan.
‘The Dutton saga continues, taking up where Yellowstone left off in another epic tale,’ said David Glasser, CEO of 101 Studios. We are pleased to take audiences throughout the world on this exciting adventure.’
The series has followed the Dutton family on their Montana cattle ranch, and the first half of season five aired in November of last year, attracting an amazing 17 million people.
Meanwhile, the announcement comes months after rumours suggested Kevin Costner would depart the series due to disagreements between the actor and the writer.
However, in a statement released to Deadline at the time, Paramount attempted to cast doubt on Costner’s ‘departure’ and the series’ termination.’We have no news to share,’ it stated. Kevin Costner is an important element of Yellowstone, and we hope that will continue for a long time.’
The second half of the last season’s casting is yet unknown.
Yellowstone season five will return to Paramount+ in November 2023.
