After being grieved by the death of her hamster and flying around the world to scatter his ashes, a pet owner has discovered a new furry companion who ‘loves Italy.’
Lisa Murray-Lang, 46, spent £3,500 to transport her Syrian hamster, Spud, to Hawaii after he died last March at the age of three years and seven months.
The animal lover wanted to send him goodbye in style and selected Waikiki, Honolulu, to visit the beach that inspired his beloved ‘getaway.’
Lisa discussed Spud’s exotic funeral with hosts Holly Willoughby, 42, and Phillip Schofield, 60, on Thursday’s This Morning, and introduced her new companion.
Begbie, Lisa’s hamster, has developed a taste for La Dolce Vita and is supposedly enamoured with all things Italian.
‘You’ve continued this now, he’s seeing the world, but you know his preference is Italy,’ Wylde Moon founder added.
‘Apart from the fact we’ve just seen him tucking into a bowl of pasta, how do you know that he loves Italy?
‘I remember reading what hamsters do like to eat and I thought, “Oh, I’ll just check him out and see if he likes it and that was it I couldn’t stop him.”
Begbie could be seen scurrying around his Italy-themed abode, which had a backdrop of Rome’s Colosseum, a bowl of spaghetti, and a little cut-out of Gino D’Acampo.
Holly said he was’so cute,’ and quipped that Begbie’s hair looked like Phillip’s from behind.
Phil asked: ‘So what’s his personality as he’s still a little bit shy?’
‘He’s still a little bit shy, But he’s definitely coming round. he’s completely different to Spud but also quite similar in a lot of ways as well.
‘They are two completely different personalities. But he is a real showman.’
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
