A woman who thought she was going through menopause at the age of 50 was left in disbelief after learning she was actually pregnant.
The woman, who already had an adult daughter, was completely stunned by the news but says her new baby, who she named Khaleesi, helped her change her life.
Shelly shared her story on Tuesday’s episode of This Morning, explaining the situation to Dermot O’Leary, Alison Hammond and Vanessa Feltz for the show’s ‘Later in life achievements’ segment.
Laughing at the hosts’ reaction, Shelly said: ‘I already had a 20-year-old and it changed my life so, so much.
‘After I had Khaleesi I exercised and became fitter than fit.’
She explained that she accompanied her young daughter to gymnastics classes, and thought: ‘If she can do it, I can do it! So I just became as fit as possible.’
Her elder daughter ‘adores’ little sister Khaleesi, Shelly said proudly, and added that ‘she’s a brilliant baby sitter’.
This Morning presenters Alison and Dermot were flabbergasted by Shelly’s story, with Alison joking: ‘I’m 47! I thought it was the end of my time, maybe I could have another baby!’
Vanessa, meanwhile, was in awe of the ‘curveballs’ life can throw at you.
‘It’s not what you expect, it’s not necessarily what you wanted, you wouldn’t have even dreamed of it,’ she said.
‘It happens, and it can be such a blessing! Not just babies but all sorts of things’ at an older age, from moving to a different city to falling in love.
It appears Shelly’s story had a serious impression on Alison, and she may be making an announcement of her own soon.
Just as the show was about to cut to break, the presenter threw up her hands and shouted: ‘I’m having a baby!’ as co-presenter Dermot cracked up laughing.
This Morning airs on ITV weekdays from 10am.
