The highly anticipated Willow series got cancelled after only one season.

The TV version of Ron Howard’s iconic 1988 film of the same name reintroduced major actor Warwick Davis and followed the events of the blockbuster picture.

According to Deadline, the show has been cancelled barely two months after it ended.

The series, set 20 years after the first film, featured Willow Ufgood (Davis) again, but with a new cast of people.

The official synopsis read: ‘In a magical world where brownies, sorcerers, trolls, and other mystical creatures flourish, the adventure continues, as an unlikely group of heroes set off on a dangerous quest to places far beyond their home, where they must face their inner demons and come together to save their world.’

Davis was joined by Ellie Bamber, Ruby Cruz, Erin Kellyman, Amer Chadha-Patel, and Tony Revolori, however Val Kilmer was unable to reprise his role as Madmartigan due to illness.

Because to the epidemic, he was obliged to withdraw late in the process.

‘We were prepping in the spring of the year when it was most occurring,’ showrunner Jonathan Kasdam stated. Val, on the other hand, was hesitant to come out.’

Kasfam was hoping that Kilmer would return for a second season.

‘We wanted to leave open the door to any possibility in the future and also honour the spirit of him.’ he told Entertainment Weekly.

Willow’s future appears to be bleak.

Willow is available to stream on Disney+.
