BBC’s The Repair Shop has become a comforting piece of television for viewers everywhere since it began back in 2017.

The show – hosted by furniture restorer turned presenter Jay Blades – sees customers pay a visit to Jay and his team of experts to have a cherished family heirloom brought back to life.

It is a show that has inspired many a tearjerking moment, as customers share their touching personal stories, and are reunited with their restored item.

Part of the comforting nature comes from the soft Glaswegian tones of its narrator – but who is the man behind such a soothing commentary?

Who narrates The Repair Shop?

The Repair Shop is narrated by Scottish actor and commentator, Bill Paterson.

Paterson was the narrator for the first series, before being replaced by former Game of Thrones actor Robert Pugh for the second, third and fourth seasons.

Paterson returned for the fifth season and has continued to lend his vocal talents to the show since.

Who is Bill Paterson?

Bill Paterson is a very seasoned actor whose credits range from a number of well-known titles in the world of film and TV.

Born in 1945, Paterson began his career in the theatre during the 1970s, before going on to focus more on film and TV in the 1980s and beyond.

His TV credits include the likes of Auf Wiedersehen Pet, Doctor Who, Law & Order, Outlander, Little Dorrit, and he was recently seen as Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Dad in Fleabag.
