What could be a more comforting way to nursing a hangover after New Year’s Eve than to tune in to some uplifting TV – The Great British Bake Off?
Not only does tonight’s episode of the series on Channel 4 feature an episode full of the typical fun that can be found in the renowned tent, but it also gives viewers the opportunity to watch some of their favourite bakers return to the competition.
On The Great New Year Bake Off 2023, hosts Noel Fielding and Matt Lucas will be joined by judges Paul Hollywood and Dame Prue Leith to welcome back four previous contestants who have previously appeared on the show.
It would appear that this will be Matt’s last appearance on the programme given that he just recently stated he will be departing his role as one of the co-hosts.
Who exactly is going to be taking part in the competition that will celebrate the beginning of the new year?
Who is taking part in The Great New Year Bake Off 2023?
The four returning baking aficionados coming back to vie for the New Year’s crown on tonight’s episode are sure to put smiles on their audience’s faces.
First up is Chigs Parmar, who competed in the Bake Off in 2021 and made it all the way to the final round.
Antony Amourdoux and Manon Lagrève, who were also contenders in 2018, will be there with him in the tent.
Lottie Bedlow, who will be a star in 2020, will perform last and complete the cast. And what a magnificent one it is too!
Chigs revealed his delight about the programme in an Instagram post that was uploaded shortly after it was announced in the beginning of December. In the post, he said: ‘Getting the opportunity to be in the Bake Off tent once is a dream come true, but baking in it twice .’
Lottie added: ‘Sucker for punishment me…but what a pleasure it was to go back and bake with these legends.’
She added: ‘So good to see the crew and team again too – now we know @realmattlucas is leaving, it feels extra special that we had another chance to be in the tent with him and @noel_fielding ! X.’
Manon wrote: ‘It’s time to see how my second stint in the @britishbakeoff tent went 4 years later! So many memories of fun, hard work, and the start of my new career in the food industry .
‘It was nice to be back! Looking forward to watch it with you tonight (I have Not seen the episode!) and hope you’ll be watching with a piece of cake (I better start baking now!).’
Antony also shared how delighted he was to take part, writing: ‘In for one last hurrah in the very coveted British Tent w. Some fab bakers.’
What time is The Great New Year Bake Off 2023?
The Great New Year Bake Off 2023 is airing on Channel 4 tonight at 7.40pm until 9pm.
In addition to the usual Signature, Technical and Showstopper challenges, there will also be a riverdancing spectacle to see in the new year.
One the programme has aired, viewers will be able to catch up on demand on All 4.
