Bridgerton fans won’t have to wait long for the highly anticipated spin-off to arrive on Netflix.
From the original serial, the limited series will follow the early years of Golda Rosheuvel’s Queen Charlotte.
The series will be ‘centred on Queen Charlotte’s ascent to notoriety and power,’ according to the streaming site.
‘This Bridgerton-verse prequel tells the story of how the young Queen’s marriage to King George sparked both a great love story and a societal shift, creating the world of the Ton inherited by the characters in Bridgerton,’ the description reads.
In the six-part series, Golda Rosheuvel will repeat her role as the queen, while India Amarteifio will portray a younger version of the figure.
But when does it air, and where does it fit into the Tonne timeline? Everything you need to know is right here.
Where is Queen Charlotte set in the Bridgerton timeline? Is it a prequel?
The period drama takes place decades before the events of Bridgerton and focuses on Queen Charlotte’s ascent to power as well as her early love affair with King George III.
The first season of the period drama began in the summer of 1813, following Daphne Bridgerton‘s (Phoebe Dynevor) entrance on the marriage market.
The second season, set exactly one year later, focuses on Anthony Bridgerton‘s (Jonathan Bailey) trip to the altar. Queen Charlotte, on the other hand, came in England from her country of Germany in 1761, 52 years before the commencement.
The video begins with a young Queen Charlotte riding in a horse-drawn carriage, questioning, ‘Why me?’ from her companion.
Of course, a Bridgerton spin-off would be incomplete without some sensual scenes, as King George (Corey Mylchreest) is seen whipping Charlotte’s garments off as they lock lips.
As they prepare to begin married life, Charlotte is warned about her status and informed by a courtier, ‘You’re the first of your kind. You need to secure your position.’
When she appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live, India suggested some of her family members to have some booze before watching the show.
After being questioned more by the talk show host as to why, she explained that some of the scenes are a ‘little bit racy and not for the eyes’.
When is Queen Charlotte coming out on Netflix?
This Thursday (May 4), Netflix will make the Queen Charlotte series available for viewing.
Golda and India highlighted last month how much effort went into ensuring consistency between their depictions of the queen at various phases of her life.
‘One thing I can say is, do you see any change here, any type of difference?’ Golda replied, pointing to her face as she sat on the sofa next to India.
‘The little moles,’ The One Show’s Alex Jones responded, as the actress went on to explain: ‘So, I have little moles, which were cast. They made two casts and in the show, India has the moles.’
‘[Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story is] not the world that we see in Bridgerton, at all. And I think that’s what’s great about Queen Charlotte, is that it sets the foundation for Bridgerton,’ India explained.
‘We find out why society is so diverse and beautiful. She is a 17-year-old girl. Historically, came from Germany, didn’t speak any English, to marry a monarch, the most powerful monarch of the time.
‘[She] was coming into a society where she is the only person of any kind of ethnic minority in such a high status.’
Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story premieres on Netflix on Thursday May 4.
