So fans were thrilled when John Simm returned for a second series as Detective Superintendent Roy Grace, along with co-stars Richie Campbell as detective sergeant Glenn Branson and Rakie Ayola as Assistant Chief Constable Vosper.

Where is Grace season 2 filmed?
The show is filmed across Brighton and Hove and the surrounding areas on the Sussex coast.
Speaking about filming in Brighton, John Simm has said: ‘Brighton is great… We’d decided to move to Brighton before I got offered this job, so it’s the very meaning of the word serendipity really.’
‘I’d lived in London since I was 18, and we thought maybe it was time to get out, so we decided on Brighton, where a lot of our friends had already moved…’
‘I got the call asking if I wanted to play this Brighton detective and I couldn’t believe it, I rang my wife and said, “You’re not going to believe what I’ve just been offered!” So, it just all fell into place, it was obviously meant to be.’
Brighton Beach and Pier
Perfect settings for moody, detective beach walks, Brighton Beach is famous for its expansive views and pebbled walks.
No show could be filmed in Brighton without including the iconic pier and the meandering beach.
The trailer for the second series even kicked off with an aerial shot of the West Pier.
Devil’s Dyke
Devil’s Dyke is a 100m deep V-shaped dry valley on the South Downs in Sussex in southern England, 5 miles north-west of Brighton.
It is managed by the National Trust, and is also part of the Beeding Hill to Newtimber Hill Site of Special Scientific Interest.
Viewers were left a little confused though following the episode on Sunday, May 1, when Devil’s Dyke was referred to as Hob’s Dyke.
Writer Peter James explained why, saying that, unlike writing fiction, television productions must ‘tread carefully’ when planning locations.
He told Brighton paper The Argus: ‘ITV are wonderful to work with, but for legal reasons we had to change a lot of names. Like Devil’s Dyke for example, we had to call it Hob’s Dyke and East Brighton Police, rather than Brighton Police.’
‘Then in the next episode, Shoreham Airport has been changed to East Preston Airport.’
Shoreham Airport
Brighton City Airport, also commonly known as Shoreham Airport, is located in the parish of Lancing in West Sussex, England.
Peter James gave away this filming location in his aforementioned comments.
Shoreham Port
A coast and marina located in the coastal town of Shoreham-by-Sea in West Sussex, England will also be featured in the show.
Regency Square
Regency Square is a large early 19th-century residential development on the seafront in Brighton.
The distinctive architecture of the Square appears in the trailer for the second series, so viewers can expect the location to play a part in upcoming episodes.
In the trailer, John Simm is shown opening the boot of his car in a state of distress. Only time could tell what’s in the boot, or what’s happening…
