Bake Off: The Professionals kicked off last week as the best patisserie chefs in the country battle for the crown.

Like the usual version of Bake Off, the goal on The Professionals is to be named star baker at the end of each episode, and hopefully win the coveted trophy at the end.

Judges Benoit Blin and Cherish Finden get the very, very tough job of judging the yummy creations the professionals whip up in the kitchen and offering up their sometimes savage, but always honest, thoughts.

Great British Bake Off alum Liam Charles and comedian Tom Allen have the delightful role of hosting the chaos.

The first episode last week saw some great highs and some pretty harsh lows as the contestants made Jaffa cakes, so we look forward to what the future of the show has in store.

The Bake Off tent this is not – but just where is the series filmed?

The professional chefs’ fancy kitchen is actually a set built from scratch in the converted stables of upscale stately mansion Firle Place in Lewes, near Brighton.

The house, which has been owned by the Viscounts Gage since the 15th century, has design inspired by a French chateau and features an impressive collection of artworks, including paintings by Van Dyck and Gainsborough.

The stables are specially insulated and temperature-controlled every year to stop any baking disasters. Before the contestants arrive, the crew has 10 days to set up the kitchens.

The country estate was also where the 2020 film adaptation of Emma was filmed.

The Great British Bake Off, which has been filmed in Welford Park in Berkshire since 2014, is not filmed on the same site.

Bake Off: The Professionals returns to C4 at 8pm on Tuesday May 26.
