Now that the release date for Ms Marvel has arrived, plenty of fans might be questioning where the show falls in the timeline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
The reviews are in, and so far fans across the globe are falling in love with Kamala Khan, played with unbridled enthusiasm by 19-year-old Iman Vellani.
In the show, Kamala is a self-professed fangirl, whose ultimate idol is the one and only Captain Marvel, who made her debut in the 2019 film of the same name.
As the trailer revealed, the teenager discovers a bangle that allows her to develop superpowers, resulting in her becoming a hero in her own right.
She’s joined in the cast by Matt Lintz as Kamala’s best friend Bruno, Yasmeen Fletcher as their friend Nakia, as well as Zenobia Shroff as as her mother Muneeba, Mohan Kapur as her father Yusuf and Saagar Shaikh as her brother Aamir.
Where does Ms Marvel fall on the MCU timeline?
As the first episode of Ms Marvel makes clear, the show takes place after the events of Avengers: Endgame.
Kamala enthusiastically tells the tale of how the Avengers defeated Thanos, brushing over some of the more gruesome details to tell her bubbly version of events.
One thing that she stresses is how much she admires Captain Marvel for the role she played, despite admitting that some believe Carol Danvers deserted the Earth.
Co-executive producer Sana Amanat was recently asked exactly when Ms Marvel is set, explaining that they hadn’t settled on an ‘official number’ of years post-Endgame for the tale.
‘So, I think right now, we haven’t put an official number on how many years have gone by since Endgame. I cannot tell you off the top of my head because I would butcher it,’ Sana told The Direct.
‘I feel like it’s one to two years, something like that, but I don’t actually remember. But we do have that in our timeline.’
The main events of Endgame take place in 2023, five years after the Blip caused by Thanos in Infinity War.
Therefore, this would mean Ms Marvel is likely to be set around 2024 or 2025.
How many episodes of Ms Marvel are there?
There are going to be six episodes of Ms Marvel in total, the first of which came out on Wednesday June 8.
The episodes are coming out on a weekly basis, so the season finale will air on Wednesday July 13.
It’s currently unknown whether there will be second season of Ms Marvel, but it has already been confirmed that Kamala will return in The Marvels, the 2023 sequel to Captain Marvel.
She’ll be joined in the cast by Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau and Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury.
Ms Marvel is available to watch on Disney Plus with new episodes released on Wednesdays.
