Litvinenko, starring Doctor Who’s David Tennant, has already created quite a stir – and it’s now coming to your television.
Viewers have been fascinated by the Inside Man actor’s ‘transformation’ into his role when the series began broadcasting exclusively on ITVX in late 2022 (see our review!).
The story follows Des as Alexander Litvinenko, the nominal member of the Russian Federal Security Service.
After defecting from Russian intelligence agencies, he settled in Lincolnshire and worked as a writer.
Litvinenko was poisoned in November 2006, and images from his hospital bed sent shockwaves throughout the world. He died not long after that.
If you like a nice night in front of the television and aren’t used to watching things on streaming services, here’s when the David Tennant drama begins…
What is Litvinenko about?
Litvinenko will follow Marina Litvinenko, Alexander Litvinenko’s wife, in her 10-year legal battle to prove the culpability of those who poisoned her husband.
The British audience is aware of the circumstances surrounding Alexander Litvinenko’s death and will reasonably anticipate that the four-part series will focus on the events leading up to that iconic image.
The series, however, will begin with the poisoning before the remaining three episodes examine Marina’s attempts to identify people responsible for her husband’s murder.
When is Litvinenko on TV and where to watch it?
Litvinenko will start airing on ITV1 from tonight, June 19, at 9pm.
The next three episodes will air every night at the same time, each lasting one hour.
In place of the following installment, a documentary titled Litvinenko: The Mayfair Poisoning will show at 9 p.m. on Friday.
ITV appears to be just broadcasting the first four episodes for the time being, but don’t worry, ALL episodes are now available to stream on ITVX.
On December 15, all ten episodes were made available for free on the site.
Who is in the cast of Litvinenko?
Alexander Litvinenko, the titular spy, was poisoned and killed in November 2006. David Tennant portrays him.
Margarita Levieva plays Litvinenko’s wife, Marina, who is intended to become the series’ centre point as the film chronicles her real-life court struggle.
Neil Maskell, well known for his roles as Winston Churchill in Peaky Blinders and ‘Arby’ in the Channel 4 drama Utopia, will play Brent Hyatt.
Mark Bonnar, who portrayed Chris in the Channel 4 comedy Catastrophe, will play DS Clive Timmons, who aided Marina in her court fight.
Watch Litvinenko tonight at 9pm on ITV1, or stream all episodes now on ITVX.
