Ncuti Gatwa was confirmed as the 14th Doctor after months of speculation, however, fans are desperate to know when his debut episode will air.
The Sex Education actor, who rose to fame in his role as Eric Effiong, said he was ‘deeply honoured, beyond excited and of course a little bit scared,’ to take on a role that is near and dear to many people’s hearts.
‘This role and show means so much to so many around the world, including myself, and each one of my incredibly talented predecessors has handled that unique responsibility and privilege with the utmost care.
‘I will endeavour my upmost to do the same,’ he added.
Showrunner Russell T Davies and Ncuti both posted on Instagram with two heart emojis, a plus symbol, and a blue square (presumably referencing the Doctor’s two hearts and the Tardis).

It was confirmed that both Jodie, 39, and showrunner Chris Chibnall will be leaving the show later this year.
The announcement accompanied the news that their final episodes will be a trio of specials, culminating in a blockbuster episode that will form part of the BBC’s Centenary celebrations.
The first of Jodie’s final outings was released on New Year’s Day and was titled Eve of the Daleks.
Legends of the Sea Devils, aired on April 17, however at the end of the Easter episode, the show’s official Twitter page teased when the episode will air without providing an official date.
The tweet read: ‘This is the day you die…
‘The Thirteenth Doctor faces the forces that mass against her in her final adventure. Autumn 2022.’
Show bosses have done a great job at keeping all the important details close to their chest, but we know that Ncuti will be making his debut next year.
And with the show’s 60th anniversary looming, (November 23 2023 to be exact) many believe the long-awaited episode will air as a special surprise.
Russell, who has worked on Queer As Folk and It’s A Sin, will return as a showrunner after departing the show in 2009, after David Tennant’s time as the 10th doctor.
Speaking over Ncuti’s current title, he gushed: ‘The future is here and it’s Ncuti! ‘Sometimes talent walks through the door and it’s so bright and bold and brilliant, I just stand back in awe and thank my lucky stars.
‘Ncuti dazzled us, seized hold of the Doctor and owned those Tardis keys in seconds.
‘It’s an honour to work with him, and a hoot, I can’t wait to get started. I’m sure you’re dying to know more, but we’re rationing ourselves for now, with the wonderful Jodie’s epic finale yet to come.
‘But I promise you, 2023 will be spectacular!’
