The sun is shining, the temperatures are rising, and sunglasses are being donned, which can only mean one thing: the new series of Love Island is on its way.
Fans of the ITV2 reality dating show will know that this time of year brings a villa full of fresh participants hunting for love in the much debated sensation’s 2023 summer series.
Many people will be looking forward to spending their summer weekday nights catching up on all the drama, romance, and (hopefully) countless twists and turns as host Maya Jama kicks off another hot series.
So, given that we all know that summer doesn’t really begin until Love Island premieres, when can fans expect to see the villa return to screens?
When could Love Island 2023 start? Rumoured summer start date
While ITV has yet to confirm a date, the expected start date is June 5.
A source told The Sun that: ‘Love Island will start on June 5, just as people are getting ready to enjoy their summers.
‘ITV have already lined up the islanders who will be heading to the show’s villa in Majorca.
‘The cast will fly out late next month ready for the show to begin in just eight weeks.’
The series will run for eight weeks, according to the source, and Maya is ‘chomping at the bit’ to start working.
They explained: ‘Having her on board has given Love Island a real boost and it’s expected that ratings will soar.’
The summer series comes shortly after the winter 2023 series, which aired its final episode in March.
Kai Fagan and Sanam Harrinanan won that season, which was recorded in South Africa rather than Mallorca, while Ekin-Su Cülcülolu and Davide Sanclimenti won the main summer series last year.
Producers will be hoping for a stronger response to the main season after the January series saw the show’s lowest ratings in seven years, despite Maya Jama being a fan favourite in her debut series replacing previous presenter Laura Whitmore.
Despite this, ITV2 is allegedly bringing back the winter event next year.
When could Love Island 2023 summer series end?
The series will run for eight weeks.
So, applying some fast calculations, if the show does actually begin on June 5, we may anticipate the finale on July 31.
Rumours about who will compete in the programme have already begun to circulate as excitement for the series rises.
Among the potential candidates are economics graduate Andre Furtado and actress Molly Marsh, the daughter of Coronation Street legend Janet Marsh.
Keep a watch out for further information as the reported start date approaches.
The Love Island summer 2023 series will air on ITV2 soon.
