It’s the news all Strictly Come Dancing fans have been waiting for, Blackpool week will be back for the first time in two years.

The much-loved themed episode had been suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic but is returning for the 2022 edition of the BBC’s juggernaut series.

Instead of the studio’s ballroom floor, the celebrities will instead travel to the iconic Blackpool Tower Ballroom to Cha Cha Cha in front of judges Motsi Mabuse, Craig Revel Horwood, Anton Du Beke and Shirley Ballas.

Blackpool week will happen on Saturday November, 19 and while free tickets had been available for members of the public, registration has now closed.

A favourite among fans, the special week on Strictly has been responsible for many memorable moments, including Ed Balls descending to the dance floor while playing a burning piano.

Similarly, Stacey Dooley made the most of the cavernous venue and made quite the entrance by flying in on a stick of rock, while fans got emotional in 2017 watching Neil and Katya Jones danced after she was pictured kissing Seann Walsh.

Other special themed instalments of this year’s Strictly include a week to mark the BBC’s centenary, which saw the stars dance to theme tunes from the broadcaster’s programmes.

Arsenal legend Tony Adams and Katya did the Cha Cha Cha to BBC Sport’s tune, while Tyler West and Dianne Buswell performed the Tango to Doctor Who.

This week, the likes of Helen Skelton, Hamza Yassin and Ellie Taylor will try and spook the judges with hair-raising routines for Halloween week.

And while Will Mellor has been consistently wowing the judges, he has recently confessed he would ‘never’ do another reality show after appearing on this season’s Strictly Come Dancing.

‘This is it for me. If you’re going to do one do the biggest one and I’m glad I’ve learnt a skill every week,’ he said.

The 46-year-old continued to The Sun: ‘I couldn’t sit on a show just waiting to be voted out, I’d rather at least learn a skill and put my hand to something and really get my teeth into it.’

Strictly Come Dancing continues tonight at 6.50pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
