Westworld cancelled after four seasons as devastated fans beg for new series: ‘Why cancel it right at the end?’

Westworld has been canceled after four seasons.

Just months after the series finale aired, HBO bosses confirmed that the award-winning sci-fi drama -starring Evan Rachel Wood, Thandiwe Newton, Tessa Thompson and Aaron Paul – was officially axed.

Bosses confirmed the news in a statement, which read: ‘Over the past four seasons, Lisa and Jonah have taken viewers on a mind-bending odyssey, raising the bar at every step.

‘We are tremendously grateful to them, along with their immensely talented cast, producers and crew, and all of our partners at Kilter Films, Bad Robot and Warner Bros. Television.

‘It’s been a thrill to join them on this journey.’

Co-creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy shared their own message through Kilter Films, adding: ‘Making Westworld has been one of the highlights of our careers.

‘We are deeply grateful to our extraordinary cast and crew for creating these indelible characters and brilliant worlds.

‘We’ve been privileged to tell these stories about the future of consciousness – both human and beyond – in the brief window of time before our AI overlords forbid us from doing so.’

Westworld, based on Michael Crichton’s 1973 sci-fi flick, first hit our screens in 2016 and became an instant hit with fans, plunging us all into the terrifying world of Artificial Intelligence.

The reason behind the scrapping has not been made clear, but Variety has reported that the decision is due to a host of factors, including the cost to make the drama.

Fans were heartbroken over the news and flocked to Twitter to plead for more episodes, so that they could offer a fitting goodbye to their favorite characters.

‘What the hell!? One more season. It had one more season…,’ one fumed. ‘Why cancel it right at the end? #Westworld #SaveWestworldSeason5 #WestworldSeason5 #DontCancelWestworld.’

‘Give it a wrap up movie you cowards! @wbd #Westworld,’ another pleaded.

‘#Westworld is CANCELLED?! That makes no sense! @HBO,’ an upset viewer penned.

A Twitter user questioned: ‘Could they not have just signed off a 5th and final one to wrap things up? #Westworld.’

‘Oh come on! Couldn’t they at least let them finish the story? #westworld,’ a follower added.

The news may come as even more of a shock as co-creator Jonathan recently shared his hopes for a fifth season.

‘We always planned for a fifth and final season,’ he told Deadline. ‘We are still in conversations with the network. We very much hope to make them.’

‘Jonah and I have always had an ending in mind that we hope to reach,’ Lisa added. ‘We have not quite reached it yet.’
