A star of the popular Netflix series Wednesday has allegedly been fired after being accused of sexual misconduct.
A series of tweets in January accused Canadian actor Percy Hynes White, 22, of having sexual relations with many women.
Soon after, several viewers on social media demanded that he be removed from the show.
The actor then addressed the charges in June, claiming that there had been a “campaign of misinformation” and that the assertions were “baseless and harmful.”
He now looks to have lost his employment on The Addams Family spin-off, in which he played Xavier Thorpe, a student with the capacity to make his work come to life and was starred by Jenna Ortega.
According to a source close to Hynes White’s family, he will not feature in the second season.
‘Percy is wonderful young man, that’s the truth,’ they said.
‘He never took part in any of the false claims again him, which were on Twitter and never followed up or substantiated.
‘Percy is respectful, gracious, talented actor, a true professional. He’s unfailingly polite to all, including the crew and his fans, most of whom are loyal to him as it should be,’ they added when speaking to the Daily Mail.
They continued: ‘For Netflix to drop him from the show is a disgrace. It was just false rumours. It’s just not right.’
According to the magazine, Netflix has stated that due to the continuing strikes in Hollywood, no decision on casting for the upcoming season has been made.
Since the claims first surfaced, Hynes White and his parents, all actors and authors, have fiercely rejected them.
His father, actor and author Joel Thomas Hynes, 47, published a statement in support of his son in recent months and stated he was being ‘wrongly accused’.
‘I used to quite blindly subscribe to the old adage that where there’s smoke there must be fire,’ he wrote.
‘But if these past few months have made anything absolutely clear, it’s that where there’s smoke (even if there’s a whole lot of it) sometimes that’s all it is – smoke.’
He went on to say that the ‘anonymous online hatred’ left people prevented from speaking up for the ‘wrongly accused’.
‘If publicly offering my support for my kind and gentle, massively talented son equates to me throwing myself to the wolves – so be it, come what may,’ he said.
Hynes-White’s mother, Sherry White, 52, a prominent writer and film producer, also shared the message.
The actor would be ‘perfectly fine,’ according to the insider, because people in the industry “know his character and talent.”
They also chastised Netflix and the Wednesday team, saying they’should be ashamed of themselves for treating him so cruelly’.
