Warwick Davis has been mentioned as a possible replacement for Jeremy Clarkson on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, amid rumours that his time on the ITV show may be coming to an end.

Mr Clarkson wrote a vile tirade against Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, in a recent column published in The Sun, in which he said: ‘I hate her on a cellular level,’ and referenced a scene from Game of Thrones as he stated that he dreamed of her being’made to parade naked through the streets of every town in Britain while the crowds chant, “Shame!” and throw lumps of excrement at her.

The item became the most complained-about story by the Independent Press Standards Organisation, with Mr Clarkson, 62, offering an apology amid reports that Amazon would cut connections with him, having partnered with the TV presenter on The Grand Tour and Clarkson’s Farm.

Carlyn McCall, the head of ITV, stated that his opinions were ‘in no way accepted by ITV,’ while Kevin Lygo, the network’s boss, added, ‘I would say anything he writes in a newspaper column… We have no influence over what he says.’

Mr Lygo said, ‘Yes, at the moment we are,’ when asked if the broadcaster will keep Mr Clarkson as the face of WWTBAM.

Nonetheless, there is ongoing speculation that his stint on the quiz show will be cut short, with numerous names being floated as possible replacements.

Mr Davis, who previously hosted ITV game series Celebrity Squares and Tenable, is one of the frontrunners, according to bookmaker William Hill, with odds of 8/1.

Only Connect anchor Victoria Coren Mitchell, comedian and TV personality Susan Calman, and former Great British Bake Off presenter Sandi Toksvig have the same odds.

Ben Shephard of Good Morning Britain has odds of 9/1, while former Pointless anchor Richard Osman has odds of 10/1.

Pointless’ Alexander Armstong, famous TV personality Rylan Clark, former Countdown host Anne Robinson, and The Chase’s Bradley Walsh all have chances of 12/1, while 8 Out of 10 Cats star Jimmy Carr has odds of 14/1.

Lee Phelps, a spokeswoman for William Hill, stated, ‘Jeremy Clarkson’s time on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? Looks like it’s coming to an end, and we’ve put up a list of probable replacements.

‘The picture will grow clearer as time passes, but for the time being, we believe Warwick Davis, Victoria Coren Mitchell, Susan Colman, and Sandi Toksvig are the 8/1 favourites for the role.’

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? Is available to watch on ITVX.
