The first cast members have been confirmed for upcoming Netflix series Vikings: Valhalla, after the main series recently came to an emphatic end.

The likes of Frida Gustavsson, Sam Corlett and Leo Suter will all star in the new show, which is currently in production at the streaming giant.

Vikings: Valhalla will pick up around 100 years after the end of the original cult series, as the age of Vikings is coming to an end.

The Witcher actress Frida will play Freydis Eriksson, who is described as being ‘fiercely pagan, fiery and headstrong’. She reaches Kattegat as an outsider in the new series.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina on Netflix actor Sam is also on board as Leif Eriksson, a Greenlander who is ‘an intrepid sailor and physically tough’.

Leo plays Viking berserker Harald Sigurdsson, Bradley Freegard will play King Canute – the King of Denmark and a ‘wise, savvy and ruthless Viking leader’.

Elsewhere, Game of Thrones actor Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson will play Harald Sigurdsson’s older half-brother Olaf Haraldson.

Laura Berlin is on board as Emma of Normandy and English actor David Oakes will play the cunning Early Godwin, who is Chief counsellor to the King of England.

Caroline Henderson is Jarl Haakon, the ruler of Kattegat, while Pollyanna McIntosh will appear as Queen Ælfgifu and Asbjørn Krogh Nissen as Jarl Kåre.

It was announced way back in 2019 that a spin-off series was being developed by Vikings creator Michael Hirst and Die Hard writer Jeb Stuart.

The main series came to a spectacular finish recently, with the cult show saying goodbye to the characters that we have watched over the show’s six seasons.

Vikings boss Michael recently teased the upcoming spin-off series will be ‘more of a thriller’ than the original historical epic.

Just like Vikings, Vikings: Valhalla will feature the tales of several real historical figures, including the son of Erik the Red Leif Erikson, Freydís Eiríksdóttir, Harald Hardrada and William the Conqueror.

Vikings is available now on Amazon Prime Video.
