The Great British Bake Off has been devastated by the series’ first elimination.
Alison Hammond made her début alongside Noel Fielding, Dame Prue Leith, and Paul Hollywood in the heartwarming show’s comeback.
The participants were tasked with constructing a trademark vertical layer cake, the original Bake Off cake in the technical challenge, and a sponge showstopper to kick off the new series.
Despite Queen of Telly Alison proving to be the show’s salvation, viewers were not thrilled with the outcome.
Despite finishing second in the technical, deli and supermarket manager Amos was the first competitor to be eliminated from the new series following his performance in the showstopper.
‘It was obviously the showstopper that stopped my show,’ he said.
He tearfully continued: ‘As soon as I heard my name I came out of my body.
‘It has been amazing being in that group of people walking into the tent on the first day, and that is softening the blow a little bit.’
Following his leave, Amos stated that entering the white tent on the grounds of Welford Park near Newbury was a “dream,” and that he was a member of a “exclusive club.”
He also described Alison and Noel’s ‘double performance’ as ‘cheeky and wicked’.
‘I remember being on the other side of the tent but just always being able to hear Alison’s laugh which then made us laugh without even hearing what was said to make her laugh,’ he said.
Amos added: ‘One of the funniest moments in the tent was Alison thinking my apple buttercream was champagne flavoured.
‘Honestly it was such a pleasure meeting Noel and Alison and she gave us all such a warm welcome and even gave us some treats to eat during our down time – legendary.’
I love #GBBO but seriously wonder what the point of ranking the technical is when it makes no difference over who goes. Sorry to see Amos go

Not sure how Amos got sent home when he came second in technical, and people who came bottom didn’t do great in the showstopper either #GBBO

Following Amos’ emotional final scenes, viewers were left just as heartbroken for him, with many disagreeing with the result.
One wrote: ‘Absolute scandal on the bake off, not Amos.’
‘Not sure Amos deserved that tbh,’ another said, while several others echoed: ‘Justice for Amos.’
Someone else seethed: ‘I love #GBBO but seriously wonder what the point of ranking the technical is when it makes no difference over who goes. Sorry to see Amos go.’
‘Does the technical challenge count for nothing?’ another asked.
The Great British Bake Off continues on Tuesday at 8pm on Channel 4.
