As Celebs Go Dating enters its second week, Vanessa Feltz defends her ‘rude’ attitude on dates, which many have called out.
The 61-year-old startled Channel 4 viewers when she went head-to-head with expert Paul C Brunson over her unethical behaviour.
She rounded on him after the love gurus chastised her for dismissing guys before giving them a chance.
This was especially noticeable on a date with Richard, a salmon smoker who travelled from Manchester to meet her.
The incident, which aired on August 23, left viewers with a foul taste in their mouths since Vanessa looked to be on her phone before abruptly leaving the restaurant.
Richard hadn’t even completed his breakfast when Vanessa revealed on This Morning that not everything is as it appears.
On Holly’s first show back, she told co-hosts Holly Willoughby and Alison Hammond that producers had truly intervened.
‘What actually happened?’ asked Holly after highlighting the bad feedback Vanessa had received from Richard.
‘What really happened was, I was casting a few looks of kind of desperate like “help” to the crew,’ she explained.
Vanessa continued: ‘The chief exec[utive] came over and said: “Vanessa you’ve been called into work, there’s a breaking news story.” So I looked at my phone to confirm it.
‘I wasn’t just staring at my phone through the date, that would be terribly rude and I honestly didn’t do it.’
She said she checked her phone before telling ‘the smoked salmon man’ she had to dash off to work, although she did apologise.
This, however, was not what viewers saw on the show, as it looked Vanessa merely left on her own volition – which seemed to be Richard’s perception as well.
Vanessa added: ‘But of course, they didn’t show that bit. So it looks as if I’m just looking at my phone rudely then I just turn and stride out while this poor fella is mid-chew.’
The presenter conceded that the way it was presented on the broadcast made it appear nasty, but she argued, ‘That’s not what really happened.’
Despite what she believes is a distortion, Vanessa assures the presenters that it’s all in good fun and that she should know better as a “reality TV veteran.”
She went on to say that she and Paul had reconciled after their disagreement over her lifestyle, and that she did not have a rich boyfriend.
Celebs Go Dating is available to watch on Channel 4.
