**Warning: Unforgotten series 4 spoilers ahead**
Unforgotten viewers were taken on an emotional rollercoaster during last night’s series four finale – and things didn’t get any easier after Sanjeev Bhaskar shared a moving message from Nicola Walker on social media.
The drama left fans reeling on Monday night, after Nicola’s character DCI Cassie Stuart died following a tragic car accident.
DI Sunny Khan returned from solving the case in the heartbreaking finale, only to find Cassie’s family had been told she would never regain brain activity following the crash.
Taking to social media after the episode aired, Sanjeev Bhaskar posted a picture of a backpack and a note, writing: ‘Thank you all for carrying us through series 4 of @UnforgottenTV.
‘The last of this series #sunnysbackpack was unbeknownst to me, packed by #NicolaWalker – with a note she wrote, when I opened it on set. I cracked.’
The note reads: ‘Dear Sunny. I love you, you know. It’s worth saying sometimes. Cassie x’
The beautiful message was the perfect sign off for the character, and fans replied to the post to share their emotional messages after the final.
‘Ok now I really am broken! Cracking series, Sanjeev. It’s such a jewel on our telly,’ one wrote.
‘We will so miss #Unforgotten Thank you for bringing these wonderful characters to life with your sublime acting. I am an emotional wreck,’ another added.

Series four of the hit detective drama followed an investigation that began with the discovery of a severed head that had been kept in a freezer for more than 30 years.
After the death of Cassie, Sunny also had to deal with their final case together alone, finally discovering who killed Matthew Walsh 30 years ago, before keeping his body in a freezer until now.
It was revealed that Dean Barton, a hustler businessman, was behind the killing, having changed his name to start a life away from his criminal family. It was revenge for killing his brother back in the 1990s, and Fiona Grayson, Liz Basildon, Dean Barton, and Ram Sidhu then colluded with him to hide the body.
Unfortunately, ITV are yet to announce if there will be another set of episodes following the detectives – but after the death of Cassie, the show looks to have reached its conclusion.
