Ella Morgan of Married At First Sight is reportedly planning to become the first transgender celebrity on Strictly Come Dancing.
Ella, who previously stated that representing her community gave her life ‘meaning,’ is chasing the famous BBC dancing series, and they are thought to be receptive to exploring the concept.
Ella, 29, has already taken a significant step towards her Strictly goal by joining up with Insanity, the same celebrity agency that signed Zara McDermott, the first Love Island contestant to participate.
‘A meeting with BBC management has been planned for Ella to explore the possibility of joining the Strictly cast next year,’ a source informed Mail Online.
They went on to say that it would be a ‘dream come true’ for Ella, not just because of the fantastic dazzling dresses, but also because of the larger message of acceptance it might carry.
‘Strictly has never been afraid of being inclusive or alienating viewers and that has worked in their favour, as now it’s drawn in new audiences,’ the source continued.
‘Bosses want to continue reaching new viewers and breaking boundaries, a transgender contestant will certainly be a Strictly first.’
Layton Williams, a 2023 finalist, was previously questioned about the potential of a transgender star appearing on the show.
‘I think producers are open to all beautiful people from all walks and that would be superb,’ he responded giving viewers hope.
The actor also mentioned how much of an honour it has been to inspire others by being himself, despite the bad feedback he has received at times.
‘The biggest inspiration really is people saying it’s inspiring, what we’re managing to do as a duo, and using that as ammo to be like, we deserve to be here.
‘Being here is inspiring so many people to be themselves, to not necessarily feel like they have to fit the norm and I feel really proud, that’s the biggest thing I’ll takeaway from it, not what people’s opinions are.’
Ella feels that her ‘reason’ for being on ‘this planet’ is to make a positive contribution to transgender representation.
She said: ‘There were times before and during my transition when I didn’t want to be here anymore. I didn’t die, and there’s a reason I’m still here on this planet.
‘I genuinely believe everyone is here for a reason. I didn’t know what mine was, but I knew it was something. Now, I believe it’s to spread a message and give a voice to trans people.’
Citing Olivia Attwood and Chloe Burrows as people in the industry she admires, Ella added: ‘I want to keep working in this field and be a voice for trans people. It’s a lot of pressure to be a representative, but a good pressure.’
On the renowned E4 dating programme, Ella was initially paired with Nathaniel Valentino, 36. They married as strangers and tried to make their relationship work, but they were unable to establish a long-term bond. Ella returned to the experiment with a new groom, JJ Slater, 30. During the last vow renewal, however, they chose to remain friends.
She’d like to follow in the footsteps of Ellie Leach, who won Strictly with Vito Coppolo in the final on Saturday.
Strictly Come Dancing is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
