Thor star Chris Hemsworth has put down his faithful hammer for an evening to read a CBeebies Bedtime Story, taking inspiration from his Marvel character’s godly powers.

The actor is currently promoting his latest MCU film, Thor: Love and Thunder, which sees him reunite with Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie and Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, now transformed into Mighty Thor.

The 38-year-old admitted that while he knows ‘a thing or two about thunder and lightning’, he does feel better when the storm has passed – an important message for the story he’s going to read during his CBeebies debut.

The book by children’s author Salina Yoon, titled Stormy Night, is about a bear who is ‘frightened of the rain and thunder’.

Salina has written other instalments featuring the Bear, and has also published a series of books about a Penguin.

Chris, who shares three children with his wife Elsa Pataky, explained how much he enjoys reading to his own kids.

‘I love nothing more than reading bedtime stories to my children and it was a joy to get to read Stormy Night, a story about a little bear who is scared of storms,’ he said.

‘Even though I know a thing or two about thunder and lightning, I always feel better when the storm passes.’

Chris is one of several Marvel stars to have joined the ranks of CBeebies Bedtime Story readers, with Tom Hiddleston, who plays his on-screen brother Loki, also taking part, as well as Captain America actor Chris Evans.

Other celebrities to have lent their story-reading skills including The Office star Steve Carell, Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl and singer Harry Styles.

The Duchess of Cambridge also took part for Children’s Mental Health Week, reading The Owl Who Was Afraid Of The Dark by Jill Tomlinson.

Chris has one daughter and twin sons, born in May 2012 and March 2014 respectively.

It recently emerged that his kids appear in Thor: Love and Thunder, alongside Natalie’s children, Christian Bale’s children and director Taika Waititi’s brood.

Chris’ eight-year-old sons are playing the younger version of his character Thor, while his 10-year-old daughter plays a character called Love.

‘It’s really cool, they really wanted to be in it,’ Hemsworth said about his kids’ involvement in the film, adding: ‘It felt like a one-off fun family experience.’

Chris Hemsworth’s CBeebies Bedtime Stories episode airs on Friday July 8 at 6.50pm on CBeebies and BBC iPlayer.
