Fans have challenged This Morning to ‘do better’ after interviewing former lawmaker Nadine Dorries.
Viewers tuned out the former culture secretary’s visit on the ITV show to promote her book on disgraced former Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
Dorries defended Johnson’s role in Partygate while being questioned by presenters Rylan Clark, 35, and Emma Willis, 47, saying he was out of London at the time of the illegal gatherings.
This is despite the fact that Johnson, 59, was the first Prime Minister in British history to be convicted of breaching the law and given a fixed penalty notice as a result of the controversy.
Dorries’ support for Johnson outraged viewers on X, formerly known as Twitter, with many expressing displeasure that ITV was giving her ‘airtime.’
One This Morning fan, Alison, raged: ‘Why do I have to listen to this bitter woman, obsessed with Johnson, spouting her poison on a light entertainment show, ITV have you gone to the far right? If so I will stop watching. #ThisMorning.’
‘#ThisMorning and ITV helping to promote this vile grifter,’ said Jon Wallace, echoing Alison’s stance. ‘I’m changing the channel right now.’
‘Nadine Dorries is vile,’ the Showbiz Secrets X account simply commented, while Sohail Shah moaned, ‘Why are you giving this woman airtime? ‘Do better.’
Many viewers were also perplexed when Nadine, the previous Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media, and Sport, mispronounced the name of one of the UK’s most renowned broadcasters on many occasions.
As Hannah Cassidy pointed out on X: ‘Nadine Dorries constantly calling @Rylan “RylanD” in this interview on #ThisMorning is unbelievable. Former Secretary of State for Digital, Culture & Media, ladies & gentlemen.’
Dorries announced her resignation as an MP with ‘immediate effect’ in June.
She tweeted at the time: ‘I have today informed the chief whip that I am standing down as the MP for Mid Bedfordshire, with immediate effect.
‘It has been an honour to serve as the MP for such a wonderful constituency but it is now time for someone younger to take the reins.’
Nadine Dorries is vile… #ThisMorning.

Sorry #ThisMorning but have had to turn the TV off. Can’t believe you’re giving Nadine Dorries airtime to promote her banal book.

Dorries was elected as an MP for the first time in 2005 and has been a vociferous opponent of Rishi Sunak’s government since he took office.
Her appointment as Culture Secretary under Johnson saw her oversee the now-cancelled attempt to privatise Channel 4.
During her tenure in Parliament, she was no stranger to controversy, having lost the Conservative whip in 2013 as a result of her involvement on ITV’s I’m A Celebrity… Get me out of here!.
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
