This Morning viewers were taken aback after a section touting Christmas goods aired in August.
On Thursday’s episode of the ITV morning show, hosts Andi Peters and Rochelle Humes went over a list of gifts for individuals of various ages, as well as delicacies that could be stocked up on right now.
Those watching at home, on the other hand, were less than impressed, questioning why the holiday season was being discussed before the summer holidays had even ended.
‘This Morning are playing Christmas Music in August. The world has gone mad,’ one person posted on Twitter.
‘This Morning has a segment on about Christmas on August 31. I despair,’ someone else added.
Another added: ‘I don’t want to think about Xmas until at least November and even that’s too early.’
Someone person mentioned that the products would very certainly be purchased and subsequently lost.
‘Half of these items you would buy now only to completely forget about them when December comes,’ they wrote.
However, many others were irritated with the programme and voiced their displeasure.
‘How brainwashed by capitalism we are that it seems to be acceptable to talk about Christmas shopping in August,’ one person wrote.
‘Oh stop it! Y’all ruin the build up to Christmas starting this early,’ someone else shared.
Another called the move ‘insensitive’.
‘Children are not yet back at school. Parents under pressure with uniforms etc and you’re doing a Christmas item!?? Give ordinary working families a break and stop this unnecessary pressure!’ they write.
Later in the broadcast, the hosts discussed whether it was too early to talk about Christmas, presenting photographs fans had brought in of Christmas decorations and items that had already been sold in stores.
This Morning, on the other hand, is far from the first to promote Christmas shopping.
John Lewis announced its annual list of the greatest toys to purchase for youngsters in July.
