People have been advised against visiting abroad for cosmetic operations by a lady who claims she was given an invasive Brazilian butt lift surgery that she did not request.
Michelle Heath, 41, wants to have her extra skin removed after shedding 10 stone.
She conducted a thorough search for procedures in Turkey, which were thousands of pounds less expensive than those in the UK, and made an appointment with a board-certified surgeon.
But virtually as soon as she was out of surgery, it was obvious something was wrong.
‘I hadn’t heard any scare stories but if I had, I probably would have opened my eyes a bit more,’ she said when appearing on This Morning on Tuesday.
‘The red flags happened when I got out of theatre and I had someone come into my room and demand I pay more money for medication, despite the fact I’d already paid for antibiotics,’ she continued.
Despite having paid for two nights at the hospital, Michelle claims that after the first she was ordered to wait five hours in a waiting room until her transfer to a hotel came.
However, she was now having trouble sitting down.
She had gone to Turkey to have skin on her legs removed and to have her back lifted, but three days later it became clear that she had also had a BBL, which is regarded as one of the riskiest cosmetic operations.
Michelle claims that she was frantically attempting to get aid while in excruciating agony, and when a nurse from the clinic eventually showed there to assist, additional money was once more requested.
Michelle was desperate to get home, so when she was finally able to fly, she had to pay for business class because she couldn’t even sit down.
Michelle was persuaded to go to the hospital after one of her friends back home in Northern Ireland saw how she was feeling and that Michelle smelled like “rotten flesh.”
It was at this point that the severity of the situation became apparent. Michelle was unable to sit down or even use the restroom, and a glance at her legs indicated that the liposuction had left them with blood clots.
Speaking on the program, Michelle said that after the incident, she was “just left with scars” and “didn’t even have a bum to speak of anyway.”
Warning other people against risking travelling for surgeries like this, she said: ‘Would you play Russian Roulette? Don’t do it, it’s too much of a chance.’
Her tale follows the passing of Shannon Bowe, age 28, who passed away in Turkey last week after flying there from her home in Scotland to get a gastric band installed.
22 British people have passed away since January 2019 as a result of cosmetic operations in Turkey.
In a statement to ITV, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, said that if people were ‘travelling to Turkey to undertake a medical procedure we would advise you to refer to the Health Turkey medical website for health providers who are approved by the Ministry of Health.’
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
What is a Brazilian butt lift?
A Brazilian butt lift (BBL) is a surgery where a doctor transfers fat from the abdomen, hips, lower back, or thighs to the buttocks.
The result is more of an hourglass-shaped figure, with larger buttocks.
It can also result in a smaller waist if the fat comes from your abdomen or lower back.
Doctors remove the fat using liposuction.
The risks include fat being injected too deeply leading to fat embolization, where fat gets into the bloodstream and travels to the heart or lungs and can end up blocking arteries or veins.
