Joey Batey, who plays The Witcher, has said that he’s particularly excited about a certain narrative appearing in season 4, which he suspected may be a great hit with book readers.
The final episodes starring Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia after four years in the lead role were made available on Netflix last month with the release of season 3 volume 2 of the fantasy series.
Liam Hemsworth will have taken over as the titular monster hunter by the time the programme comes to our screens, while Joey will return as the bard Jaskier, along with Anya Chalotra as sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg and Freya Allan as princess-turned-magical-warrior Ciri.
Joey recently mentioned a significant component of the novels that he’s looking forward to expressing on film when asked what he hoped for the fourth installment of the series.
‘I’m just glad that Jaskier’s still in it,’ he quipped, before adding: ‘There’s a thing called the hanza, which I’m looking forward to exploring. It’s a bit of a fan-favourite moment I think.’
The hanza could be extremely important for The Witcher going forward… and viewers have already met several of the characters who are a part of it.
Warning: spoilers for The Witcher season 3 and potential spoilers for season 4 ahead.
In the Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski’s The Witcher books, Geralt’s hanza is a group of people that work together to locate and save Ciri.
They are Angoulême, Dandelion, Milva, Cahir, and Regis.
Some of these names might sound familiar if you’ve simply watched the TV programme and not read the novels or played the video games. whereas some are less so.
That name, starting with Dandelion, alludes to Jaskier, the sole fan favourite.
The term “jaskier” means buttercup in Polish, therefore the character in the TV series goes by that name naturally.
The next character is Milva, who debuted in the show in season three and was portrayed by Meng’er Zhang, a star of Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings.
Despite the fact that Milva isn’t a dryad herself, Geralt encounters her in season three volume two in the Brokilon woodland where the dryads are in charge. She travels with him and Jaskier as he sets out in pursuit of Ciri.
Eamon Farren’s Cahir, who first appears to be on the search for Ciri until admitting in the most recent episodes that he wants to help her, has been a pretty convoluted character in The Witcher.
Both Regis and Angoulême have not yet made an appearance on television; Regis is a vampire who joins Geralt’s group.
Contrarily, Angoulême is a fair-haired young woman who resembles Ciri, a wealthy Cintran family’s native daughter who joined the Nightingales bandit group before joining forces with the witcher.
What do you think about the possibility that Liam will lead the fully formed hanza in season four?
