The Witcher season 3 could be split into two volumes, the Netflix series’ showrunner has teased.
The third season of the fantasy show, which is based on the books by Andrzej Sapkowski, is due to be released in summer this year.
It will mark the final outing for Superman star Henry Cavill, who threw himself into his gritty portrayal of monster hunter Geralt of Rivia.
Henry, 39, is due to be replaced by Hunger Games actor Liam Hemsworth, 32, in the lead role from season four.
During a recent interview, The Witcher showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich addressed the upcoming launch of the third season, explaining that they haven’t ‘ruled out’ dividing it into two parts.
When asked about the potential of splitting up the release of the episodes, she told Collider: ‘We haven’t discussed that yet, but at this point I think what we see happening across all sort of streamers, I wouldn’t rule it out.
‘I do think that obviously we don’t put anything out that we’re not incredibly proud of. So that dictates our entire launch date. And I think it’ll be interesting.’
Pointing out there’s still some time to go until The Witcher season three comes out, she added: ‘So God willing, we get it all out at the same time. But who knows, we’ll see what happens.’
The Witcher: Blood Origin, a prequel series set 1,200 years before the events of the original show, launched on Netflix on Christmas Day.
While the programme introduced viewers to an array of new characters, the familiar bard Jaskier (Joey Batey) made a special appearance.
At the premiere of Blood Origin, he opened up to Metro.co.uk about Henry’s exit, admitting that he found the news ‘gutting’.
‘I was very sad. I mean, I’m not gonna lie. It was a little gutting because Henry just brings the show,’ the 33-year-old said.
‘He has had this show on his shoulders for four years now and brings this strength on the bad days, and the joy on the good ones. So he will be really missed. I’ll miss him, like nobody’s business.’
However, he also strongly supported Liam in taking over the role.
‘I’ve been talking to Liam and Liam’s so keen and is already throwing himself into every little corner of this world and this universe,’ he said.
